“Tatja at 916SKIN is an amazing woman. I'll just start there. I was referred to 916 by my sister who had been struggling with her stubborn acne for years. She had tried SO many different regimens, health plans, and medications with no success. She discovered 916 through a friend, and after only 3 months, the transformation was incredible! Her face was all the proof I needed. I knew I had to check out 916SKIN.

I was a bit hesitant to try out a new skin regimen, as I had tried so many before. It was a taxing process, that ultimately led to heartbreak as my skin never truly cleared up. I was pleasantly surprised as I arrived at 916 to find that Tatja's clinic was both inviting, and calming. Tatja herself was kind and welcoming. We sat down and discussed the issues I have had with my skin. Shortly after I had my first "treatment" in her soothing spa room. I was not only pampered but I was reassured as Tatja assessed my face and explained to me what was happening and why.

I have been following and using Tatja's prescribed acne program since December 2010 and have seen a huge difference in both the feel and look of my skin. I'm getting married in June, and am so happy that I won’t have to stress over my face. One less thing to worry about.

Bottom line... Tatja at 916 Acne, Skin & Wellness Clinic takes care of her patients. She not only understands the medical side to acne and skin care, she understands the emotional side as well. I would and do recommend her to anyone who seeks a solution and care for their skin issues.”

Acne Tips...

to help heal breakouts & problem skin

Getting rid of acne requires patience, consistency and attacking it from many angles. Through customized homecare, bi-monthly acne treatments, dietary changes, nutritional supplementation and the help of an acne specialist, your breakouts and cystic acne can clear.

  • FRUIT & VEGGIES - should make up 70% to 80% of your diet. These foods provide abundant nutrition for healing & repairing skin and bring down inflammation.
  • FOODS TO EAT - Whole, pure, organic foods grown out of the grown or off of a plant. Poultry, lean meat or small fish varieties (large fish contain more heavy metals).
  • FOOD TO AVOID - dairy, gluten, corn, soy, eggs, refined sugar; processed, fast or junk foods.
  • REDUCE STRESS - Stress triggers the adrenal glands, raising stress hormones that disrupt the liver and stimulating oil production - leading to breakouts in those prone to acne.
  • SLEEP - Adequate rest reduces stress. Aim for 8 hours of sleep on a consistent basis.
  • RINSE AFTER SWIMMING - Iodides and chlorine can irritate the follicles in acne-prone skin. The combination of sun, heat, and irritants can cause major acne flare-ups. Rinse immediately after.
  • DON'T PICK - Picking can cause scarring, and almost inevitably makes the acne lesion and the skin surrounding it, worse.
  • ICE INFLAMED PIMPLES - Use an ice cube directly on the pimple or breakout area for 2 to 5 minutes, twice a day. Icing reduces pain, inflammation, and helps prevent scarring. Begin icing pimples when they first begin to form.
  • SAY "YES TO ZINC" - According to the results of a number of clinical trials, zinc has been shown to be useful in treating inflamed and cystic acne. Some research has found zinc to be as effective as antibiotics in reducing inflamed acne. Ask me about which type of zinc is best.
  • GO FRAGRANCE FREE - Use fragrance-free laundry detergents to help prevent acne flare-ups.
  • AVOID FABRIC SOFTENERS - Liquid fabric softeners, including dryer sheets, leave a waxy residue that can clog pores. Avoid using fabric softners on pillow cases, towels, and any clothing that may come in contact with acne-prone skin.
  • AVOID WATER SOFTENERS - Due in part to the high levels of chlorine salts, specifically potassium chloride, there is evidence that water softeners can trigger break outs.
  • AVOID LOW ESTROGEN BCP's - Avoid low estrogen birth control pills such as: Norplant, Provera, and Depo-Provera.
  • AVOID PREMARIN - Premarin, a synthetic progesterone, once commonly used in hormone replacement therapy has also shown to trigger hormonal breakouts.
  • DHEA - too much of this supplement can trigger breakouts.
  • LIMIT SUN EXPOSURE - The peeling nature of most acne products makes skin more vulnerable to sun damage. Over exposure to the sun can irritate and damage the follicles and impede the healing process. Acne Majorca as well Solar Acne are acneic conditions caused in part by excessive sun exposure.
  • WEAR PROFESSIONAL SUNSCREEN - Use a professional sunscreen purchased from a skin care professional or dermatologist that contains at least 7% zinc oxide. Avoid over-the-counter sunscreens for acne-prone areas of the skin. There are certain mineral makeups that offer adequate protection from the sun. Reapply sunscreen and minerals every 1 to 2 hours.
